Headteacher's Newsflash 22/09/17

Reminder - Open Evening Wednesday 27th September 2017

In case you missed last week’s Newsflash, on Wednesday 27th September we are opening our doors to the parents of pupils in Years 6, 5 and 4 in order to share with them why we think our school is rapidly improving so that it becomes the first choice for parents in our local community and beyond.

Best Exam Results Ever banner real pic

We are incredibly proud of the results this summer.

The school achieved its best ever results for GCSE, A Level and Vocational and we would very much like to share the story of our success and invite you all along to be part of our continued journey towards becoming an Outstanding school.

(Lessons will finish early at 2pm on the 27th September and resume at the normal time on the 28th)

GCSE Pod – Year 10 and Year 11

Last year you may remember me talking about GCSE Pod and recommending it as a useful way for your child to access extra material to help them with their studies.

GCSE Pod allows us to track which pupils have logged on and what they are downloading.  There is material for every subject we teach at GCSE level and our internal evidence is suggesting that those pupils who engaged with GCSE Pod the most also came out with some of the best marks.

As an example, History this year did exceptionally well, improving their A*-C grades by 17% which is incredible.  But the success stories do not end there;  English are at national levels for Language, maths have increased their A*-C rate and so have Science.

Better teaching over time, high expectations from school, parents, pupils and having access to high quality material via GCSE Pod have all contributed to improved outcomes this summer.

So, for this academic year, we have introduced GCSE Pod early in the belief that your child who is sitting their GCSE exams in a matter of months will do even better.

We are incredibly proud of the results this summer.

The school achieved its best ever results for GCSE, A Level and Vocational and we would very much like to share the story of our success and invite you all along to be part of our continued journey towards becoming an Outstanding school.

Attendance matters:  Good attendance = Good grades

Attendance has taken a dip this week unfortunately and we have slightly dropped below 94%.

In order to become a successful school we need you to send your child to school every single day.  A school in Norfolk has been slated in the press recently for suggesting that parents ensure their children get an early night, but really it is not bad advice.  Adequate rest, less time spent on social media, more time talking as a family are all healthy things and will ultimately help your child become successful when they leave school either in Year 11 or Year 13.

All we want is for every child that attends our school to get the very best out of the education we provide and that is why we are partners in your child’s success. My staff and I cannot do this alone, you as parents cannot do it alone either.  Educational success is both of us working together each day from Year 7 until the last exam in Year 11.

Every single day counts.
