Carol Concert

The faithful duly came to enjoy a night of carols and festive music-making at Gateacre's 2017 Christmas Concert. A bleak mid-winter's evening was certainly brightened by the orchestra's renditions of "Winter Wonderland" and "A Fairytale of New York" while our Pop Voices performed inspired seasonal “mash-ups” of “Havana” and “Hold Back The River” with “Ding Dong Merrily On High” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” complete with beat-boxing from year 9 student, Will Murray. In addition, the Sinatra-inspired “Gat Pack” made their debut with “Santa Baby” and the String Group offered up a haunting version of “The Coventry Carol”.

There were memorable solo turns from Amy Morton, Lucy Thompson, and, performing her own song, “Christmas Is Yours (And You Are Mine)”, A-Level singer, Courtney Hall. Caoimhe Quinn and Lauren Grant gave us a spirited rendition of Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” while two of our year 12 A-Level Music class, Sophie Roberts and Lauren White, provided a polished version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”.

The Gateacre Jazz Band swung through “We Three Kings” before backing year 9 vocalist, Amy Figuera on a toe-tapping “Sleigh Ride”.

Encouraged by comperes Zac Lowe-McAlley and Georgia Johnson, the audience joined in with the singing of several classic carols each preceded by a seasonal reading before the evening concluded with the by now traditional sing-along finale of Slade's evergreen classic, "Merry Xmas Everybody".

The audience departed into the dark December night with their spirits lifted by another memorable Gateacre concert!
