Borrow The Moon

We borrowed samples of Moon rock and Meteorites, in STFC's Loan Scheme, week beginning 26th June 2017.

Valuable samples of moon rock and soil were brought back to Earth by NASA's Apollo astronauts. The samples were collected during NASA's manned space missions to the Moon in the late 1960s and early 1970s. During these missions the Apollo astronauts brought back to earth 382 kilograms of lunar material. NASA decided to use a small proportion of the rock and soil to develop lunar and planetary sciences educational packages.

We wanted to give as many students as possible a chance to see these amazing samples, so we took them on the road! As well as over 300 students in Gateacre we were also able to visit Woolton Primary Year 5 students. One of the y5's told us it was the best day she had ever had in school!
