Maths Party

A day of cross-curricular maths and numeracy activities was celebrated within primary and secondary schools across Liverpool.

In Gateacre across all subjects the focus of the day was maths and numeracy. We were welcomed into school by a soundtrack of numerical songs, including 9-5 by Dolly Parton and 3 is the Magic Number by De La Soul. Activities involved drawing geometric patterns in Art, making cookies in a Maths lesson, Drama looked at the life of Alan Turin, History looked at working from a budget during the Blitz and Sociology looked at crime statistics and data. These are just a few of the activities that took place. Our roving reporters were on hand finding out the latest maths news from the departments and interviewing staff and students to find out their views on maths.

Pupils from Norman Pannell Primary school came to play Human size Monopoly with the year 8 Numeracy ambassadors. The BIG Little Library hosted maths puzzles and games with the help of the Numeracy Ambassadors. We also had our local community join in, including Coffee Break in Belle Vale Shopping Centre and JW's Café in the Joseph Williams Mews, offering maths puzzles and games to all of their customers. We hear there was quite a heated debate over a game of Sudoku!

Pupils enjoyed the day and realised the importance of Maths across all the subjects.
