Duke Of Edinburgh

Gateacre School is proud to be a Licensed Organisation of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The DofE scheme is a programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to support the personal and social development of young people. It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities they may otherwise not have attempted. The award is also recognised and valued by employers and higher education institutions for the skills it develops and the hard work required to achieve the award.

Some of the benefits to young people include developing or discovering:

  • A sense of achievement

  • News skills and interests

  • Self-confidence and self-reliance

  • Leadership skills and abilities

  • Exciting opportunities

  • Experience of team work and decision making

In the sixth form, curriculum plans are planned and delivered well. As a result, students do well in both their academic and vocational examinations.
